Here's anothe question re: Decipher moving the RPG line, etc....

IF (and this is a big "if") this latest move by Decipher means the beginning of the end for their involvement with the game, and they do sell it off to another company (as Matt Cottville suggested they were trying to do back in November) could the game mechanics stay the same? I mean, the CODA system is a trademark Decipher system, isn't it? Therefore, any new company would basically have to start from scratch again, right? Unless, of course, Decipher would still be involved, but this other company would do the work for the RPG?

Does anyone know how these things work?

There really isn't a protocol for this stuff - Matt commented that they were shopping it around to outsource it - not an outright sale. I think in this case, they'd stick with the actual CODA system and trade dress.

Over on RPG.net, Kieron Yanner indicated that he'd been given the option to move to Virginia to continue working on the line, and said it had not been cancelled.

With all due respect, that's not what Kieron said. Kieron is a talented graphic designer and Decipher can always use such people to work on other projects, such as their CCGs.

Kieron was offered a transfer (that he declined) and has simply repeated the Decipher line of "They havent cancelled the lines". There's been no specific mention that he was offered a transfer in order to continue to work on the RPGs.

Ah - he wasn't very clear on whether or not he had taken the offer, and his insistence that the lines aren't dead made me assume that he would continue working on them.

    Thanks for the clarification.

"I almost stopped by the office today on the way home from work to see you guys, but I figured you'd be gone. You got anything lined up?"

"Lined up? Yeah, and no. I was the one they gave the transfer option to. Not an easy choice. But you know the dynamic duo always have a plan."
Like I've said in the other main thread, I'll be doing some inquiries on Monday to try to solidify what might be happening.

At the moment, honestly, Decipher might not have decided what they're going to do, aside from closing the LA office as a cost-cutting measure.

I hope they release the finished products before they close it down. If they close it down that is.
