    regenerative or auto-modulating shields? [ICON]

So, i'm using ST: DS9 RPG to run a game set a bit later (~2380), and due to the nature of their mission the group should have the latest shield technology. That part's easy: regenerative shields, auto-modulating, maybe the thing where you have a back-up shield that you can phase through to be the front shield when the front shield is about to go down (i forget what it's called).

Here's the hard part: How do i represent it in the game mechanics?

    Hmm interesting question.

I am trying to remember how the combat system in ICON worked, but as I seem to remember your front and back shields had a number of points of damage they could take before they collapsed.

There are rules for them in ICON, but the shields system works rather differently, as each shield has a standard strength of 10. However I seem to recall (from memory!) that if you got hit you had a chance of using some of that energy back in your shields.

With regards to the ICON Rules perhaps you could have create a random roll table to see what happens - For example

    1-2 - no change
    3-4 - 1/2 damage
    5 - no damage
6 - 1/2 damage added to your shields

So for example your standard photon torpedo, on a roll of 4 would only take 1/2 damage(10), but on a roll of 6 your wouldn't take any damage AND get 1/2 that damage back (10)

Shield modulation and enhanced backup shields would probably simply increase the enemy's target number to hit - because from a physics point of view it's more likelly to bounce off. (much as it does in Deciphers too)

Not sure about the backup shield generator; there weren't evern much in the way of rules for LUG Trek on ship creation, but You could simply say you've installed another generator - which the players have to make a roll on to get up in time, when the other one drops.. And it's only about half the strength?
