My ISP puts a "bar" in my browser I dislike, and here's their instructions for removal. I know there's some computer geeks on this board, so I was wondering if anyone could confirm that this won't smash anything else on my hard drive... Cheers; Pope.
Instructions for Windows 98/ME:
Be sure to type what is in parenthesis{} exactly as written
Click on the start menu button and select run
type: {command} in the window and hit ok
This puts you into a command line.
Type: {cd\} and hit enter to get to the root of C
Type: {cd windows} and hit enter to move to the Windows directory
Type: {cd system} and hit enter to get to the System directory
Type: {regsvr32.exe /u "C:\program files\isp50\bin\bandobject.dll}
and hit enter.
The next time you restart your computer, the toolbar
will be gone.
Well other than you haven't closed your quote brackets on the last line of instructions.. It SHOULD be ok, as all it's doing is uninstalling a DLL file (dynamic link library) which is essentially a bolt on component resource (Similar to Photoshop plugins..)
It is annoying that you have to install it in the first place and you aren't given an option to simply uninstall it or not install it in the first place.
If you're afraid of it, you could always just hide the bar
