    Tal Shiar Assassin (ICON)

I worked up this variation of the Tal Shiar overlay from Way of D'era for a recent game, thought I'd share & seek feedback/criticisms:

    Tal Shiar Assassin (54 pts)

    Assassination (choose Specialization) 2 (3)
    Athletics (choose Specialization) 1 (2)
    Concealment (choose Specialization) 1 (2)
    Demolitions (choose Specialization) 1 (2)
    Dodge 1
Energy Weapon (Romulan Sniper Disruptor) 2 (3)
    Espionage (choose Specialization) 1 (2)
Personal Equipment (choose Specialization) 1 (2)
Primitive Weaponry (choose Specialization) 1 (2)
Sciences, Medical (Toxicology) OR Vehicle Operations (any) 1 (2)
    Search 1
    Security (choose Specialization) 1 (2)
    Stealth (choose Specialization) 1 (2)
    Streetwise (choose Specialization) 1 (2)
    Surveillance (choose Specialization) 1 (2)
Unarmed Combat (choose Romulan Style) 1 (2)

    Security Clearance +3
    Obligation (Tal Shiar) -3

Security Clearance is as per the Tal Shiar Overlay in Way Of D'era.
The Obligation basically reflects the individuals being on call for assignment at any given time.

Nice one... I can see where this would be useful...

Perhaps offer an alternative between Primitive Weapon and Medical Science (Toxicology), to cover the difference between knife-men and poison specislists?

    Thank-you !

High praise in my mind considering the large amount of overlays you've supplied ! Yes, I've cut and pasted them all from the these boards.

Toxicology is a great idea thanks, maybe in place of Vehicle Operations, keep Primitive Weapons for poison coated Kailunes etc ...

I'd kinda toyed with which to keep, Intimidation or Vehicle Ops and opted for the later, thinking that work in the shadows such as I would envision for an assassin might have them benefiting more from a speedy getaway vehicle of some sort than bluster & bravado.
But I can definitely see where the poison knowledge could replace that ... assassins theoretically being sneaky and able to slip away into the shadows...

Also planning to do up a couple alternate Early Life or War College/Tal Shiar packages based on some things mentioned throughout the text of WoD. Imperial Institute of Mental Sciences to go along with the Romulan Psion overlay offered up awhile back, and a Tal Shiar package geared to the assassin. As well as the Institute for the Arts (or some such name) as an Early Life choice.

What the heck, I'll put up the bare bones now:

Early Life Package (6 DP as per WoD)

Imperial Academy of the Arts: Artistic Expression (choose Specialization) 2 (3), Artistic Talent +1, Arrogant -1

Tal Shiar Packages (9 DP as per WoD)

Assassination: Assassination (choose Specialization) 1 (2), Stealth (choose Specialization) 1 (2), Energy Weapons (Romulan Sniper Disruptor) 1 (2)

Imperial Institute of Mental Sciences: +1 Psi, Any 1 Psi Skills at level 2, Any 1 Psi skill at level 1, +1 Range or Focus Edge

Critique away, I haven't really gone over these with a fine tooth comb yet.

    OK, constructive critique.

Why not split the schools of assasination?

So you would have Close Quarters, specialising in hand to hand weapons, mostly knives. Often trained to be 'disposable assests'.
Assassination (choose Specialization) 1 (2), Stealth (choose Specialization) 1 (2), Primitive Weapon (Choose Specialisation) 1 (2)

    Next, Sniper School. Specially trained to take out targets in LOS from a distance;
Assassination (choose Specialization) 1 (2), Stealth (choose Specialization) 1 (2), Energy Weapons (Romulan Sniper Disruptor) 1 (2)

    Poisoners, usually infiltrating an organisation and poisoning the target before getting away;
    Assassination (choose Specialization) 1 (2), Artistic Expression(Acting) 1 (2), Medical Sciences (Toxicology) 1 (2)

And lastly the statement makers, less than subtle, and not too popular amongst the rank-and-file. But certainly apeealing to Stealth (choose Specialization) 1 (2), Physical Science (Explosives) 2 (3) *

    * - Do not have my core book with me, and so I am trying to remember which core skill this is... And am sure I have the wrong one...

    Constructive indeed, brainstorming is good.

For the 'statement makers' there is Demolitions and/or Sciences, Physical (Chemistry) for mixing together the goodies to make said demolitions.
    Perhaps: Assassination (choose) 1 (2), Demolitions (choose) 1 (2), Sciences, Physical (Chemistry) 1 (2)

Not sure if you were more refering to the actual act or the making of the components ... could take one at 2 (3) instead along with Assassination 1 (2) and drop the 3rd skill.

I would imagine that the actual explosives construction would be done by the tech boys (Q-Branch), and that the field operatives would have better knowledge anut where and how to place the explosives...

Of course this then opens up the Tal Shiar support services (from getaway drivers/pilots through to the Tech division).

Ah, the missing 4th book from Way of D'era !

Hmmm, and I haven't even started on Romulan Ground Troops, such as Tal Shava etc mentioned in WoD & the Dominion War Sourcebook ... some things to maybe compliment the Trooper overlay from the Icon Links ...

Q-Branch? What's Q doing, working for the Romulans?
