    All Good Things netbook

I had a thought.....I know, I shouldn't do it too often as it hurts, but here goes.....

I am planning on creating a ICON pdf netbook called "All Good Things......"

This wbook will encompass all the new rules, ideas, templates and plot hooks that's been posted here. I can do the layout and look for the photos and artwork. All I ask is the permission from the contributors for me to add the stuff in and if anyone has anything else, post it in this forum section and I'll lift it.

    Thoughts?

    Many thanks

Keep in mind that this site doesn't host Icon content currently. Also I'd like to state that I am not against this idea/project.

The problem I see with such a netbook -- and this has been my position in the past -- is that it potentially devalues online repositories like TrekRPGNet. Specifically, in this case, Memory Icon. Sites like these rely on fan submissions to keep them going. If you replicate those resources in a print or PDF publication then you're doing several things:

    1. You're letting someone else do the hard work of collecting and hosting the material (and expense), then pruning through it for your material.
    2. The publication reduces the utility of the repository site, making it superfluous (even though it came first).
    3. You create a second instance of the data, creating potential version conflicts and straying away from the concept of a single point of record.

Again, for the record, I'm not against this idea. Just pointing out some things.

Personally, I'd prefer to do a search for a particular adventure idea or Icon template than have to sift through a multi-page PDF document that may or may not be laid out nicely and print it. Plus, the online version is available pretty much anywhere with a web browser. The other one, not so much.

    Best wishes.

    For my 2-penny...

When I build up a sourcebook (the Maquis and soon to be released Psionics book), I tend to pick a subject (this is the hardest part), and focus on said subject.

But the I like to write.

However the result is a product in your name, by yourself (which looks good on a CV as a creative document), and adds value to the online repositries like Owens Memory ICON or TrekRPG if its CODA... As it is able to be hosted there too...

I know I get a personal thrill everytime someone comopliments my work. And this might not be the same if you are just building a compendium of others? I dont really know how important that is to you?

BTW; While I have no problem with you using anything I have posted, be aware that I also submitted it all to Owen for Memory ICON and so it is already underway for hosting and availability... Whether you want to duplicate that???

To be honest, when I saw an 'All Good Things' sourcebook in the subject line, I was keenly interested in what I thought may have been a sourcebook supporting the Trek future seen in 'All Good Things' and then seen again in both DS9 and Voyager! Now that I'd be interested in... Kind of like my idea for the Federation Timefleet Sourcebook (The aspect that I felt was missing from All Our Yesterdays...)

You're more than welcome to use any of the Romulan stuff or the few Species Templates I put up recently ... Like Dan, I'm thrilled other people liked them & may have a use for them !
