    Two games

I saw two games at a game shop yesterday that I haven't heard of before:

    1) Star Trek III game "includes three adventures" or something on the cover. Put out by GDW, I think.

    2) Star Trek Adventure Game. It appears to be a wargame.

    Any ideas what these are?
    Thanks.

The first one is almost certainly the FASA Starship Combat Simulator, the stand-alone wargame portion of their RPG. It was released seperately around the time of STIII. It's a mostly green box with the Enterprise squaring off with the BoP from STIII.

You got me on the second one; need more information.

Is this the boardgame that pre-Star Wars WEG put out? IIRC it had pics of Kirk & Spock, along with the TOS Enterprise facing off against a D7.

I will have to go back for more information, apparently. If both of you are correct, would they be worth purchasing? I think they are $25 each, or thereabouts.

Not really, unless you collect old Star Trek games. The combat simulator is entirely a wargame. The Adventure Game is the old precursor to the Trek RPG. Nostalgic value only.

I like old RPGs in general, not so much old wargames (except for my baby - Star Frontiers!). I probably won't get them, then. I think I will still go back and get more info.

    Cool

The Star Trek III game was a set of three different board games with solitaire potential.

One game was a combat simulator of the Kobayashi Maru scenario.

One was a simulation of merchant trade in the Federation.

The third was a choose-the-paragraph adventure.

If the Star Trek Adventure game was in a box, I'm not sure what it was. Heritage Models produced Star Trek: Adventure Gaming in the Final Frontier (By yours truly and truly awful it was, playable but barely). There was a sequel called Starfleet Voyages, that did come in a box, but wasn't much better than the first game (but it did have tabletop space combat!).

The ST: The adventure game that was put out by WEG had the same cover as the novel Black Fire (One of my favorite novels and books). The picture was Kirk and Spock in TMP Uniforms with the Enterprise refit and a K't'inga Battlecruiser in the backround

A fun little game and nice to have. the bonus is it has some solo adventures to play
