    FASA Conversion and other things

    Hi all;

I've been enjoying these Forums for the past few weeks and I am impressed. Don, you have a nice group here!

    Some questions:

1)I am converting a character from the FASA system - and I have a LUC rating that was exceptionally high (96!). This factor played a role in her development and I wonder if there are Edges (or other game stats) in the ST:RPG that would be suitable to reflect that.

Since LUC in FASA is generally usable for anything, not specific activities, I tried to find edges that would be more general in scope. I found that to affect all skill rolls, for example, I would have to take Bold, Curious and Confident, but even so, this increased the effectiveness of Courage points, which may or may not be the best way to represent this.

    Any suggestions?

    2) I have books 1 to 5 of the ST:RPG and have not seen anywhere any idea of how to handle alcohol consumption. Remember Scotty drinking an alien under the table in a TOS episode? I tried to see if poisons would be a good way to represent this but it doesn't seem quite right - perhaps there is a better way, or I missed something?

    Thanks!

You could use those Edges to represent the character's high luck, or you could just give him additional Courage Points (say 4 or 5 extra, maybe?).

I'd say go ahead and treat it like a toxin (poison). Have the effects possibly lower Percepption and Agility and each drink has 1 or 2 stages with an onset time that varies from a few minutes to a few rounds.

Thanks, Doug. I was looking at Toxins yesterday and suspected it would have to be the solution, but thought I might have missed something. (too much Romulan ale!

    1) You could try using the FAVOR OF FORTUNE edge from the LOTR RPG to reflect the character'S high LUC score.

This edge allows the character to (once per game session) re-roll one die roll or any sort, takeing the better of the two results.

The edge can be taken multiple times, with each pick granting another re-roll.

Charmed Life, also from LOTR is another possiblity.

Once per session when the character takes damage sufficent to drop one (or more) wound levels, they make make a TN10 Vitality test to loose now wound levels, but instead reatain a single health point in the current level.

Tis may be taken a second time to reduce the TN for the Vitality test to 5.

    2) Treating alcohol as a poison seems to make sense to me too, especially as it IS a toxin. I suggest that it's priamry effect be a loss of a fatigue level. This reflects how alcohol impairs all functions. This will also lead to someone passing out after a certain point. Once all fatigue levels are gone, wounds could be lost (to relect chug a lug contensts where someone drinks multiple doses before the onset time had elasped).
THe narrator might consider as a secondary effect, to give the character a use of the Resolute edge (one use per fatigue level lost seems fair). THis would reflect how brave (or foolhardy) people can be when intoxicated-taking riskes thed wouldnever consider when sober.

I proposed the first suggestion to my GM. I think it's a good one, and since it is also from a CODA rules system, likely it will not unbalance anything. Good idea!

I also like the suggestion for Drunkenness. Will have to ponder that one a bit more.

    Thanks.
