    Starships Errata

I went through the first topic in this forum and the Utopia Planitia one looking to see if there was any news about an errata listing for Starships (and perhaps ESO too) since there was talk about a consolidated list about summer 2003.

Are we any further with this?

I've started one but it's not been a high priority; it isn't a contractual obligation as a writer. Most of the errors are layout ones.

When I get to it, I'll get to it. Sorry, but that's the best I can do right now.

It must be really frustrating to work on something, be certain it is correct, only to have someone else's sloppiness make a mess of things - and impinge on your reputation.

Thanks for the quick response, Don. Any time you could do it it would be appreciated by myself, and many others here I'm sure.

Well my reputation is secure...one of the larger, most glaring errors, was in screwing up the credits!

    Don;

I compiled an errata list for "starships" based on the thread of the same name. Would it be at all helpful if I posted it?

Agreed. While I'm aware that this happened with LUG as well - in the DS9 Core book, if I'm not mistaken - at least there was some kind of genuine reason in that case, in that somebody's computer (with all the book's text on the hard drive, naturally) was stolen during a B&E.

I remember reading about how Don and Dave Biggins were the sole authors of Starships, and how just about everybody under the sun except them got credited; I shook my head at the time and thought, Pretty typical, at this point - the book's almost a year late and they still couldn't get all their ducks in a row. As a writer myself, I know I would have been tres ticked if the same stunt had been pulled with my work.

It would be helpful. I pulled out my notes this weekend, as a matter-of-fact. So, I'm devoting at least a bit of my brain's CPU time to the task.

OK, will do when I get home. I'll add some stuff I picked up with the player's guide too (which I am currently reading).

Can you or someone explain one thing to me - I saw the info on the prototype trait for starships, and I do not understand one thing - why would any trait show a + or - "0". That means no shifts, so what is the point. I must be misunderstanding something here.

And BTW Don - thank you for picking up this onerous task!

OK, I have Starships, Starfleet Ops Manual and Player's guide errata or clarifications. I also am adding a rule for Alcohol consumption that some wonderful folks here suggested and I played a bit with, FWIW.

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Starships Errata:

P.27 Prototype Edge – on the 1.25 table, there seems to be a few systems where only flaws can be "bought", such as ops, life support and missile weapon. Yet a few ship stats have the protoype- missile weapon +1 edge. Change the table to show Missile weapon +1/-1.

It also exists for the following ships:
    Constitution refit
    Galaxy upgrade
    Nebula

P.36 The Akira class states it has Mk 80 torpedo launchers times 6. Table 1.16 states an OV of 8 per launcher (8 times 6 is 48 OV). Table 1.18 indicates an OV of 48 has a photon penetration of 8/8/8/8/8 and a quantum penetration of 9/9/9/9/9. Why does the listing for the class state a quantum penetration of 8/8/8/8/8? Typo...someone probably just replaced the quantum damage with standard torpedo damage.

P.40 Phasers line Type IX (x2/E) is a typo and should read Type IX (x6/E).

P.91 The Delta Flyer should have an LF-9X4.

P.120 The K'tinga actually uses less space than its D-7 predecessor, and uses the inferior K-GDM-2 disruptor, when its size and the weapon availability would dictate that the K-GDM-4 should be mounted (less space, more powerful). Correct this by Mounting 4 K-GDM-4's, which also also puts the K'tinga's cost equal to the D-7.

P.132 Some ships have a number of transporters that don't match the previous rules. You get a "free" basic allotment of each type of transporters equal to half the ship's size (rounded down). Then at the cost of 1 space you get an extra allotment equal to the basic allotment. But the Vor'cha is size 7 so there should be a basic allotment of 3 and if extra transporters were bought then it would have 6 but the value given is 4. This is a mistake.

It Also exists in the following ships:
    Akira
    Excelsior
    Nova
    Sovereign
    Vor'Cha
    Groumall
    Galor
    Borg Scout
    Borg Time Sphere
    D'Kora
    Jem'Hadar Warship
    Harmony

P.176 Some ships that have 2 different reliability ratings for the impulse and warp systems (such as the Ferengi D'kora which has a D for impulse and B for warp). Reliability is supposed to be the worse of the two ratings. In this case remember to use the lower of the two values for the entire Propulsion system.

It also exists in the following ships:
    B'Rel
    K'Vort
    K'tinga
    Negh'Var
    Raptor
    Vor'Cha
    Theta
    Groumall
    Galor
    Keldon
    D'kora
    Ferengi pod
    JH Attack Ship
    JH Warship
    Orion Harmony

    *******This is my interpretation*****
P.160 Structure Points should be 80, not 160.
    *******************************

P.160, 168 Reliability Rating FF for Operations Systems, is a Typo, it should be F.

    *******This is my interpretation*****
P.162 Structure should be reduced to 45, not 115.
    *******************************

    Starfleet Operations Manual:

    P.82 Daedalus Class – Protections/threshold should read 12/1, not 2/1

    Player's Guide:

    Edges:
    Clarification:
Increased Range, Psionic Coverage, Psionic Focus all list as a prerequisite "Psionic X+", where X is a number. I assume that this refers to the skill one wishes to improve, since the Psionic edge itself has no upgrades.

    Correction:
Trait Upgrade: - the example mentions upgrading Resolute, but the rules restrict one from upgrading edges that affect Courage. I assume this was simply a poor choice of example.

Wealth: Level 5 should read 3,200, not 32,000 bars.

Ok, here is the rule for Alcohol:

    Alcohol & Drunkeness

Alcohol is treated as a toxin (poison), using rules and guidelines from page 226-227 of the Narrator’s Guide.

The following is representative of one or more strong drinks. It is suggested that each drink beyond the 2nd is treated as another dose of toxin, with the effects listed below.

    Type: Ingested
    Onset: 2D6 minutes
    Potency: +8 TN
    Treatment: N/A (use 1st Aid/Medicine skill tests)
Effect: Loss of a Fatigue Level
Secondary Effect: -2 PER, -2 AGL, 1d6 Wound points
    Stages: 0
