    Unhappy Trek RP-ing denied

Toronto conducted one of its annual game conventions this weekend - Orion.

I came for the Saturday sessions primarily because there was supposed to be a demo of the Star Trek RPG run in the morning.

Concidering I had no experience running the system and likely would never get to play it (at best I'd be the GM), I jumped at the chance to play the RPG and get practical experience with the CODA system.

So I got up very early in the morning, picked up a friend and headed down to Orion... only to find that the GM hadn't shown up for the Trek game...

The day wasn't a total loss - I got to try 3 systems I never played, two of which (Tri-Stat and Red Dwarf) I don't currently own.

All in all not a bad time (although I spend most of the day in a daze due to sleep-deprivation ). I played some games, got some used gaming material (including some real rare Cyberpunk 2020 supplements) but I am still rather bummed that I didn't get a chance to try out the CodaTrek game... oh well...

I hate to say it, but this makes me feel at least a bit better about having missed the damn thing...I had fully intended to get down there for eight-thirty, but ended up squeezing in a workout at Bally's before heading out to Kingston to see some friends. I was kicking myself most of Saturday and today for having missed out on the opportunity; no, my group and I don't use the Coda system, but it would have been nice to have a kick at the can (so to speak) and hob-nob with some industry professionals.

I hope that Decipher provides some kind of explanation as exactly where their Narrator absconded to. Anything less than hostage negotiations and I'd be sorely ticked...

Actually, D.S., the demo wasn't set up by Decipher, so they couldn't explain what happened anyway...

I figured that. Most of the demos run by industry sponsors (like Steve Jackson games) ran as scheduled. It looked like a kick-@$$ game of In Nomine went on in the morning.

Though I think if there had been a demo of Coda at the con, it might have piqued the interest of those who attended the demos, most of which I met in the various games I played in were gamemasters rather than players in their local areas.

I mean, the Red Dwarf game had a huge impression on my friend, who is pretty archaic when it comes to game systems (AD&D is still his favorate game).

Small scale, sure - but is better than nothing...
