As many of you know, I began my campaign with the House of Margil adventure from the Narrator's Screen. Like many of you who have done the same, I was trying to determine just who Carangul was and what he wanted.

In my chronicle, Carangul is none other than Saruman himself!
I came upon this brain storm while re-reading the Fellowship of the Rings. Note the following passage:

"For I am Saruman the Wise, Saruman Ring-maker, Saruman of Many Colours!"

and further down the page

"White!" he sneered. "It serves as a beginning. White cloth may be dyed. The white page can be overwritten; and the white light can be broken."

As far as my campaign is concerned, this revelation to Gandalf is an allusion by Saruman to his adopting "Carangul" as a nom-de-guerre to cover his attempts at searching for the One Ring. In that same vein, I may invent other names and nicknames, perhaps even adding other colors to his repertoire of names. This is why he called himself "Saruman of Many Colours."
