NOTES: Stealing many ideas from the Ambassador Design Program and having help from the newly admitted Bolians, the SS Unspecified was ready 3 years early. The Unspecified class of ships is very versatile and configurable for various tasks. Many ships of the class were built, and only a fraction of their number are in use by Starfleet. Most of them are used as cargo freighters and civilian science vessels, although some foreign powers have acquired a significant amount of the basic Unspecified hull . Some were traded with the Klingons or bought by Ferengi. It is even believed that the Romulans have 'em. Due to the attrition of Federation ships in the Dominion War, there is talk of renewing production of the Unspecified Class. The four major configurations currently in service are Science, Gunship, Cargo Hauler And Medical

    NOTEWORTHY VESSELS/SERVICE RECORDS/ENCOUNTERS
SS Unspecified, NAR 10467: First ship of the class. Lost near Alpha Centauri, cause unknown.

USS Clinton, NCC 11500: Wrecked in collision with tree, rolled over twice and exploded during emergency landing attempt in which the ship's psychologist took the helm.

USS Eisenhower, NCC 25908: First contact with BrennonBraga race Tested Recurring Character Rescue And Protection System (R-CRAP) in 2384

SS Henry Jones, NAR 12157: Civilian Science Vessel owned by the famous archeologist/explorers Sue Expendable and Jason Expendable-Noughtworth.
Nearly destroyed in encounter with Baran's Raiders.

USS Impossible, NCC 41831: The only ship of the 13th Fleet disaster in 2374 in the Kalandra Sector to survive with minimal casualties & damage, the Impossible is currently assigned to scouting and exploration missions.

USS Holland, NCC 36431: First gun-ship conversion. Will take part in Admiral Janeway's ill-fated attempt to destroy That Damn Fish, once she gets back from the DQ.

USS Knight-Errant, NCC 36547: Gunship variant sister-ship of the Impossible. Refitted after the 13th Fleet disaster, it is now going through it's shakedown near the Vulcan/Bolian front

USS Simon & Garfunkel: Cargo Hauler, assigned to DS9-New Subspace Relay re-supply run

Also in service: USS Arrogant, USS Belinda Carlisle, USS Downright, USS Inexplicable, SS Average, SS Boring, SS Redundant, SS Unlikely SS Nefarious

    Thumbs up Nice design

I like it. The descriptions are funny and the stats are realisitc for a ship of it's age, thankfully avoiding the old "let's cram in one more cool system-upgrade" trap. While I certainly won't call it the Unspecified class I might use it in my game.

Robbert, why don't you provide us with stats for the major variations, e.g. gunships adds xxx weapon systems and removes yyy science systems, etc.?

I'm working on that. Credit of course to Styro, who came up with the original idea and ship names.

I'm also considering giving the ship a trait/quirk or two.

    Starship Disadvantage: Packaged
The Unspecifieds currently in SF-service are enhanced civilian science vessels. Because of the Dominion War, all but the weakest crusers and explorers are tied up, leaving mostly Oberth and Unspecified class ships for minor scouting and scientific duty. Turning a light freighter/surveyor into a full SF vessel has its price, however: the ships are usually cramped to the outer hull. The proximity of ship's systems and the tangled circuitry makes combat very dangerous for the fragile Unspecified: Even a swingle hit has a chance of damaging multiple systems.

Roll 1d6-2: That amount of damage bleeds off into another system; Roll again on the starship hit locations table.

How about a description of the ship. That it's the counterpart to the Ambassador-class is a good idea, but it doesn't tell anything about the configuration of the Unspecified-class.

And I think you should include crew quarters on maybe decks 2 and 4, not just on deck 3.

During the last few days I tried to come up with deckplans for the Nova-class, which is comparable in size and crew strength and believe me, these quarters take up a LOT of space.

Reviving this thread, because the Impossible and Green Card from the story I wrote up are ships of this class

Reminds me of the old Klingon D-7 Deckplans. All the bathrooms were at the very back of the ship, beyond the engineering section. The crew was, of cource, up front. So, in order for the Klingons to use the bathrooms, they had to run the entire length of the ship.

And then they had to stand in line because there weren't that many of them.

No wonder TOS Klingons were so vicious.

Hmmm, I wonder if the "Bathroom Issue" is the real reason why the Klingons developed forehead ridges. Either radiation from the warp cores, or an extra place to store stuff.

    Just ruminating.
