    Enterprise Species

So sue me. I can sit down and watch Enterprise without an allergic reation to the TV, and as such, I will take what I like and ignore the rest.

    I happen to like Phlox, and so, in his honour May I present a highly conjectural 51 point Species Template;

    Species Template: Denobulan
    By DanG

A Species with a long history alongside the Federation. A highly developed and advanced culture, they had been allied and trading partners of the Vulcans prior to Earth’s first contact in 2063, and were among the first few alien species that humanity encountered.

As a species they value openness and knowledge and display a gregarious, outgoing nature, that sets them apart from the emotionless Vulcans. They extol the virtiues of learning and the arts, and are strong in both Artistic and Scientific fields (they are open to both advanced and alternate paths of learning, and have long combined the two for a rather 'unique' style of Scientific practice), combined with an open, curious nature that seems to embody the Vulcan philosophy of IDIC, it is little wonder that both Vulcans and Denobulans became firm friends and staunch allies. And the highly adaptive and emotional nature of the species enabled them to quickly bond with Humans, the two species becoming firm friends. Many conjecture that the Denobulans were the bridging factor between the Vulcans and Humans allowing the core of the Federation to firm up during the early years allowing the two species to work past their differences and become the allies that would eventually form the Federation. Indeed, the Interspecies Medical Exchange program active in the mid 22nd century was an effort to help bring the two species together, initiated by the Denobulan medical council.

While the Denobulan’s were not among the first 5 founding members of the Federation, they did however retain a close trading alliance, until their full membership was approved shortly afterwards, the Denobulans were among the first new members of the UFP. Since that time the Denobulans have become staunch supporters of the Federation.

Denobulan Culture accepts polygamy as a relationship standard, with each individuals taking multiple wives, and each wife able to take multiple husbands. Such a volatile emotional arrangement can easily be mis-interpreted by monogamistic species, however this system is supported by the Denobulan trait for a mating season, when they mate with fertile females in order to produce offsring. However because of the polygamistic nature of the species, and the competition to be the genetic superior even if only those that are chosen as mates, Mating season on Denobura can, at times, get... Violent. The polygamistic nature of Denobulan relations does of course mean that they are free to see new partners and mates even after married.

The Denobulan’s are humanoid in nature, with a pair of cartilage ridges that run from their cheekbone to the top of their forehead, where it tends to disappear under a high receding hairline. Their facial muscles are densely packed, and this is most obvious when a Denobulan grins, giving them a far larger, even un-nerving, smile than would seem possible.

Hope you enjoy it, and feedback is a requirement, especially from anyone that has seen past 'Dear Doctor' which is where we are in the UK.

I like it, Dan. I had been thinking of working up a template for them, myself; I figured they'd be an early member of the UFP.
"War is an ugly thing but not the ugliest of things; the decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feelings which thinks that nothing is worth war is much worse. A man who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature and has no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself."

    I enjoyed it too.

It was just how the First Contact with Andorians I had envisioned. The Andorians are as passionate as Klingons with a similar honour system, so to get a peace treaty with them we had to be in their debt. So I also wonder what turned the Vulcans in to nice guys by the time of Kirk?

Because everyone loves a threat species... i had been planning on the Suliban. however from Dr Phlox's comments during the autopsy in Broken Bow and from the odd spoiler that I have read, it seems that the standard Suliban, while retaining the mottled green, tall, bald humanoid look, would retain almost the same template as a human, with probably a few minor differences...

However the spoilers indicate that the Suliban are not the threat, and that the template that is required for the chamelion, cartalidge boned, see in darkness bad guys would be the Cabal Suliban.

So, in the meantime, is there anything that i may not have seen yet in any other episodes to design either of these templates???

WRT Denobulans, they've established a few more nuances... They don't talk at the dinner table (it doesn't appear to be a taboo, it seems to be just something they'd never think of doing), and they appear to have a very complex family structure. Phlox has 3 wives, each of whom has 3 husbands.

No more info has been given on the standard Suliban, but the enhancements are individual and reversible. The oogly-boogly from the future deactivates one of Silik's enhancements as an "incentive" to complete a mission.

Just wait 'till you see the nifty motorised Andorian antennae! Way cool (or, given that the main Andorian is played by Jeffery Combs, maybe that should be "Weyoun cool").

Well, I had only heard of the 3 wives... but adding in 3 husbands definatly changes it from an accepotance of a polygamy to almost a social standard... So theres a possible alteration...

Anyone know what the technical term for this kind of multiple marriage is? Is it still a Polygamy???

As for the quiet at the Dinner Table... When was this suggested. Everytime we see Phlox eating, which he sems to do a lot of, hes nattering away... At the opening of the Andorian Incident, he's yapping on about how T'Pol is failing IDIC while sharing her dinner, without consent...

To me, that doesn't imply someone raised in a culture where talking at table is not even considered... But rather a culture where dinner conversation is a virtue and relaxed eating habits rule... Anyone got a clue about this (other, that is, than a Cardassian Trait inherited with their forehead ridges???)

And your right, the nifty mobile antennae of the Andorians are indeed cool... So at least we are gaining Andorians through this series...

    Cool

The term you're looking for is 'plural marriage'. Heinlein had these in some of his later books, such as Friday.

Any searches under 'Plural Marriage' still pull up the Polygamy definition... So I guess that wording stays... I'll just need to define it further, I guess 'Plural Marriage' does that too. Cheers for the help...

I don't remember the episode. nor do I remember who he said it to. He said it in such a manner as to indicate that it was a novel concept which he had embraced wholeheartedly rather than as a taboo he was breaking. I think he was eating a piece of celery (or celery-like resequenced protein) at the time. I'll have to go back and watch the episodes. (Ah, the sacrifices I make in pursuit of Truth!)

I like the series, but for some reason I keep get the feeling that they will make Phlox's species an original member of the Federation. To be honest, I've never heard of the Centauri as a original except for the games. (FASA, LUG) I believe in the original series it did mention that Z.C. went to Alpha C, but never mentioned the species.

    The Suliban

Well I did promise to continue... And so here are the Suliban... These are a lot more 'Enterprise era' specific...

    Species Template: Suliban
    By DanG

    *Picture to be inserted here...

No more advanced than Human, the Sulidan are a reptilian, humanoid Alien Species. They have achieved interstellar capabilities far before their human counterparts, and are an accepted part, if considered minor, of established Stellar travel. Many Suliban have colonized extensively, often settling peacefully alongside other species.

History once recorded them as a minor species. No threat, and one that would fade into obscurity. That was before the Cabal seemed to appear out of nowhere in 2151.

The Cabal represent an elite minority of the Suliban peoples, A group determined to garner power anyway possible. Led by a Suliban named Silik, they were enlisted by a stranger, they accepted advanced technologies and above all advanced genetic manipulation that made the members of the Cabal physically far superior to all. In return they would do their benefactors bidding, and gain power for themselves, throwing the Alpha Quadrant into disarray.

Not all Suliban chose the Cabal, some remained as they were, gathered in their colonies, proud of their heritage, and wishing no more than peaceful existence, however the activities of the Cabal coloured the views of many others, causing distrust and even hostility towards Suliban that were not of the Cabal. In fact this was even a factor of Silik’s long term plan, the very same discontent, breeding amongst those of his species and driving more recruits to the Cabal, to undergo genetic manipulation and join the ranks of his loyal soldiers.

Not all members of the Cabal are loyal however, a small number grow dissatisfied with the treatment of their people, including both the Cabal, and the original Suliban in their considerations, and feel that this treatment steams directly from the actions of the Cabal, and of Siliks disdain for those that did not choose to change themselves. This small dissident movement works against the Cabal, from within and out. Trying to restore an element of trust that had been lost by the Suliban as a whole.

The Suliban are tall humanoids, with a mottled green skin and no body hair. The Suliban of the Cabal however also have many genetic traits added through their manipulation, among other traits this includes a chameleon like ability to appear in any form, or even disappear entirely… Total night-vision, along with enhanced strength and reflexes

Their established future as one of the minor players in Alpha Quadrant politics lost. Who knows what role the Suliban will eventually play in the Grand scheme of things.

I believe in the original series it did mention that Z.C. went to Alpha C, but never mentioned the species.
Actually, in TOS, he was listed as Zephram Cochrane of Alpha Centauri. It wasn't until First Contact that we found out that Cochrane was from Earth and later "retired" to AC.

So, in FASA, with the Alpha Centauran ZC as their only guide, Centaurans were viewed as quite human-like. I don't think this view has been discouraged, as they are described as appearing "virtually identical" to humans in the LUG TOS core book.

But knowing B & B's MOs (as they've shown in the movies, Voyager and Enterprise), they could conceivably change established canon on a whim.

    Update

The Denobulan species template has been updated thanks to new information from within the episode 'Dear Doctor' which clarifies the polygomistic relationships a little better than I initially did and alters their skill base a little too.

    changes are in Italics.

    That is all.

Ok, just thinking (no it didn't hurt) a little here, does any one here think the original Sulibans (non-cabal) joined the Federation. This might explain why we haven't heard about them before, 'a minor people of not wanting to be noticed' types hiding in plain sight.

    any way, as I said.
    Just a thought.
