    [CODA-Starships] Miranda-class Cruiser (drug-free version)

Here is my rendering of the Miranda

    PRODUCTION DATA

    Origin: United Federation of Planets
    Class and Type: Miranda-class cruiser
    Year Launched: 2283

    HULL DATA

    Structure: 25
    Size/Decks: 5/15
    Length/Height/Beam : 238/58/142
    Complement: 360

    OPERATIONAL DATA

    Transporters: 4 standard, 4 emergency
    Cargo Units: 50
    Shuttlebay: 1 A
    Shuttlecraft: 5 size worth
Tractor Beams: 1 FV, 1 AD
    Separation Sytem: None
    Cloaking Device: None
    Sensor System: Class 3 (+3/D)
    Operations System: Class 1 (B)
    Life Support: Class 1 (B)

    PROPULSION DATA

    Impulse System: SBD (0.6c/B)
    Warp System: PB-4 MOD2 (warp 3/6/6.5) (B)

    TACTICAL DATA

    Beam Weapon: RIM-12C (Type V) (x4/C)
    Beam Weapon: Type VII (X1/C)
    Penetration: 5/5/4/0/0
    Missile Weapon: Mk6 DF (x2/C)
    Penetration: 3/3/3/3/3
    Deflector Shield: PFF-3
    Protection/Treshold: 14/3 (B)

    MISCELLANEOUS DATA

    Maneuver Modifiers: +2C, +1H, +1T

    Traits : None

    Design notes:

I used the SOM version but I altered the 2 systems that felt wrong: the underpowered sensors and the overpowered torpedoes. Remember, this is a movie-era ship (there are no Vor'chas, no D'deridexes, no Akiras, etc to be compared to) and it is still a kick-ass ship.

well the Reliant caught the Enterprise with its shields down and the first attack crippled the Enterprise. So you have to factor that in when comparing the 2 ships (that meant that instead of having a target # of 14 it was set at 5... and no treshold!) Of course, Kirk leveled the field back by making the Reliant lower its shields and bought some time to repair the Enterprise.

Damn, that was a great movie

    Shouldn’t it be a Size 6 Vessel?
Both Height and Beam are in the Size 6 Range.

    Tractor Beams

What is the FV and AD coding for the Tractor Beams signify - I cannot find it anywhere in any of the books?

I assume it is a Forward/Aft designation, but wanted to clarify.

    FV = Forward Ventral
    AD = Aft Dorsal
"And all I ask is a tall ship, and a star to steer her by."
"Though a cloaking device, pulsed phaser cannons
and a full load of quantum torpedoes would be quite nice too."
