    Miscellaneous Data
    Maneuvering: +3C +0H +1T

*Note: Prior to 2268, all Romulan ships used a "magnetic bottle" to power their warp drives. The fuel in the bottle is expended after every use of the drive. The Romulan ship is required to refuel, either at an installation or by collecting hydrogen particles in the outer atmosphere of a gas giant or within the innermost orbit of a star. Depending on the procedure, refueling requires 6-10 hours.

The Gallant Wing-class heavy cruiser was the product of the Star Empire's perceived threat from the Federation and it's outposts along the Neutral Zone in the mid-2260s. Launched in 2266, the V-6 was considered to be a match for the Constitution-class starships, although no V-6 ever encountered any version of the Constitution in their service life.

    2311 Update
The Gallant Wing was phased out prior to the Tomed Incident.

The Whitewind-class cruiser represents the mainstay of the Romulan exporation fleet in the late 23rd Century. Built to accomodate a broad scientific/research capabilty, the Whitewind is probably the most common class of starship away from the Federation's prying eyes.

Like the Federation's exploratory vessels, the Whitewind is able to hold its own in battle, including a "Janus"-mounted plasma torpedo that allows the ship to fire aft. The 2291 refit improved the Whitewind's shields, ensuring the cruiser will remain a viable part of the Romulan fleet into the early 24th Century.

The Romulan ship is required to refuel, either at an installation or by collecting hydrogen particles in the outer atmosphere of a gas giant or within the innermost orbit of a star. Depending on the procedure, refueling requires 6-10 hours.

The V-9 Night Flyer-class Light Cruiser was originally designed to be a refit of the V-8, but Romulan High Command decided late in the design phase to build it as an entirely new class of starship. Almost identical to the V-8, the Night Flyer is often mistaken for Bird of Prey on long-range scans, contributing to the Federation misconception of the late-2260s and 2270s that the V-8 was the mainstay of the Romulan fleet.

Like the V-8, the Night Flyer relies on deception instead of speed in combat situations, as its warp system was unable to outrun most Federation and Klingon starships.

The 2279 refit corrected this problem by replacing the twin RWC warp system with RWC-1, making the V-9 one of the fastest ships in the Romulan arsenal. The ship's structure was also heavily modified to support the new engines, making the Night Flyer surprisingly stable at high warp.

    24th Century Update
The Night Flyer was briefly phased out in the early 2300s, but returned to active service to augment the Romulan fleet against the Taurhai threat. The vessel was fully phased out in the 2320s.

    V-11 Stormbird-class Specifications

The V-11 Stormbird is, essentially, the Klingon K'tinga-class battle cruiser, with a few modifications to replace Klingon componenents with RSN types.

    Remove:
    K-GDM-2 (x2) disruptors, KP-5 (x2) torpedoes , and K-HEU-4 impulse drive

    Replace with:
    Impulse Drive RIB-1 (.5c) (B)
    Plasma Torpedoes RPT-1 (x2/C) 6/5/4/3/2

The Stormbird was first deployed in 2268. Due to their dissatisfaction with the class, the Romulans phased the V-11 out by 2285.

Dissatisfied with the 2267 technological exchange with the Klingons, especially the V-11 Stormbird, the Romulans returned to the design board to fill the need for a fast, powerful frontline warship. The result was the versatile V-30 Winged Defender-class battle cruiser.

Mounting the most powerful warp drives available, the V-30 is literally stuffed full of equipment, forgoing the Romulan tradition for spacious interiors. The V-30 is also the first ship to mount the new Type III plasma torpedo, which became available in 2291.

Intelligence reports believe that the V-30 could prove a serious challenge for a 2273 Constitution refit, and unsubstantiated reports indicate that skirmishes with the Klingons involving the Winged Defender have resulted in a perfect combat record for the Romulan battle cruiser.

The V-30 is expected to serve well into the 24th Century.

Despite the Romulan preference for the more-versatile cruiser, the T-10 has been one of the Star Empire's most successful designs to date.

Built initially as an escort for the Stormbird, the Bright One has become a deadly and efficient companion to the V-30, and one or two T-10s are always part of a Winged Defender operational squadron.

Originally built without a plasma torpedo, the T-10 added an RPT-3 as part of the 2298 refit, along with upgrading the disruptors to RPFD-3s.

    24th Century Update
T-10s were heavily involved in the Tomed Incident of 2311, and served prominently on the front lines against the Taurhai before being phased out in the 2320s.

The Romulan version of the "Great Experiment," the Nova-class battleship represents uncharted territory for the Star Empire. Intelligence reports indicate that only a few Z-1s exist, and that the Romulans guard them closely, fearing the loss of prestige should one of these ships be lost.

The Nova is one of the most powerful ships in the galaxy, literally bristling with disruptors that lay down a withering fire in all directions, and augmented with the RPT-1 plasma torpedo.

Romulan sector intelligence is unable to determine how many, if any, are being built, or if the Nova will ever be brought to the front lines in the near future.
