    [Coda Starships] Starfleet, 2340-2367

Here is the second installment of my 24th Century Starfleet conversion. The first ship, the Adroit-class heavy tender, is a vessel of my own design. The rest of the thread will cover former Spacedock ships.

The Adroit-class tender was developed in the mid-2360s, to provide Starfleet with a more flexible and responsive repair capability to large ships far from a starbase. The Adroit's powerful tractor beam array enables it to tow ships as large as a Galaxy-class explorer, while its extrnsive repair faciliities can fabricate almost anything the engineers need to repair Starfleet's most advanced vessels.

A hardy, yet relatively nimble vessel, the Adroit can travel to a disabled ship's coordinates, assess damage, and either make repairs on station or tow the ship back to starbase.

Thee ships of the class exist: USS Adroit, stationed in Sector 001; USS Dextrous, stationed in the Bajor Sector of the Alpha Quadrant; USS Grasp, stationed at Starbase 234 in the Beta Quadrant.

Combining strong shields and high maneuverability with a slightly-sinister cobra-like appearance, the Bradbury-class heavy frigate is designed for missions in or near high-threat regions of space. The largest atmospheric capable ship in Starfleet, the Bradbury suffers from a significant torpedo arc shadow in its ventral aft section, contributing to high losses during the Dominion War.

Although developed years before the Dominion War, the Chimera is one of the strangest-looking classes in Starfleet's inventory. Using a tri-nacelle setup attached almost directly to an Excelsior saucer hull, the frigate is designed as a "just-in-case" vessel. The class proved easy to construct and hardy in combat, if difficult to handle in flight.

A graceful, four-nacelle patrol vessel, the Cheyenne-class light cruiser is as large as many standard cruisers. A descendent of the venerable Constellation-class program, the Cheyenne was built to continue its predecessor's exploration role.

The Cheyenne mounted the new Class 4 sensor system, and was the first class to mount both the Mk 75 DF torpedo system and the FSQ deflector shield. Cheyennes often led smaller wings during the Dominion War.

Matching a Galaxy-class-like saucer hull with a retro Constitution-like engineering hull, the Freedom-class heavy frigate sports an odd profile. With it's extensive cargo capacity and "carrier"-like shuttlebay, the ship is often used for colony support and disaster relief missions.

Designed for long-term, deep-space survey missions, ships of the Korolev-class typically undertake multi-year missions to chart distant stars, investigate stellar anomalies, and generally advance Federation astronomic knowledge. The class takes its name from a famous Miranda-class cruiser that was devoted to interstellar research.

Designed during a period of tension with the Cardassians, the New Orleans-class heavy frigate is a heavily-armed warship that shares many design elements with the Galaxy-class explorer. The class has recently received a weapons upgrade, but proposed upgrades to the ship's armor and shielding were shelved when power and space requirements proved too difficult to overcome.

Medical Facility (110 Cargo Units worth)

Equipped with the Federation's most advanced medical technology and best-trained doctors, Olympic-class medical vessels bring much-needed medical relief to planets and regions devastated by plagues, disasters and war.

A throwback to the old Daedalus-class starships of the mid-to-late 22nd Century, the Olympic's medical facilities are designed to be modular, allowing Starfleet to quickly customize a ship for a variety of medical missions.

Considered by many to be the primary predecessor of the Sovereign-class heavy explorer, the Springfield-class heavy frigate is designed for speed and power, its mission generally including frontier patrol, search and rescue, escort, and fleet support.

Quickly becoming outdated in the era of ablative armor and pulse phasers, the frigate remains an active and valuable part of the fleet.

Another vessel designed with Vulcan aesthetics, the Surak-class escort has a fast, sporty appearance. The escort has recently been relegated to duty in less-dangerous areas in recent years, given the power of more modern escorts.

In some circles, the Vulcan government is said to privately object to the use of the name "Surak" on a warship, and are pushing for the escort's premature retirement.
