Ship design begging to be statted

It looks neat, might be something for a novice crew to start on.

Wow! Nice ship. Does it have a class name? It would have made a very nice Freedom-class. I never cared much for the one "official" design of the Freedom.

Oh, in what system did you want the stats: ICON, Spacedock or CODA? Or all three?

They list it as another "Rigel" class, but I think there's a more commonly used design for the Rigels.

As for type...I'm a CODA man. A Starships CODA man

    NOTES

The Rigel fills the role of a light exploratory cruiser in the fleet. It was designed to be flexible, thus possessing good capabilities in a variety of fields. Its main role is scientific mostly but sometimes it is used as a patrol ship, due to its improved and therefore very capable sensor package. The Rigel uses experiemental (at the time) reusabe probes that are deployed around the ship, forming a 'sensor net' of sorts which enhances its sensing abilities. It is not uncommon to find Rigel-class starships patrolling along the Neutral Zone or the Cardassian DMZ. The Rigel is also fairly maneuvrable as well as having fair tactical capabalities, although avoiding heavy combat is recommanded. Like its much larger sibbling, the Galaxy-Class Explorer, the Rigel was designed to be able to split into two separate vessels. Each section is fitted with its own impulse engines, although when connected together only those from the stardrive section are used. Most of the design's facilities have been streamlined and the degree of automation has been enhanced, making the Rigel a fairly roomy ship for its small size- a trait geatly appreciated by its crew.

    Design Notes:

this design isn't based upon the version of the Rigel found in SD, as the 'SD Rigel' is an older vessel and when I saw the drawing above I felt that it was a newer vessel with some fancy stuff.

Nice setup, Snake, but that ship looks like it's only about 75-80 meters long to me.

When I get back to work, I'll try to work on some stats of my own.

    Sweet, Ship Wars.

First round Snake "The Snake" Plissken vs. Sea "Wet Kitty" Tyger.

Next round, Ice "Frosty" Giant vs. P "You may call me Patrick" Goodman13?

Let the winner take all in this contest where the spectators are the winners; coming away with at least 2 versions of a neat little drawing.

I know I'll be looking for other neat designs from now on.

The only thing I can see which lead me to think that it might be 80-90m long is the size of the portholes on the saucer section.

But that'd have to be one tiny warp engine.

Actually that's a rather nice ship.

Perhaps something you could add would be a flaw to the warp drive, because it only has a single warp Nacelle) - perhaps lowering it's top speed or reliability. I know largelly single Nacelle ships haven't been covered in the books (mostly because Rodenbery and paramout don't like them for their own reasons, and Decipher are a liscenced product maker). I'm not a big fan of single nacelled designs, but they are not without precedent in Canon (such as the Klingon BOP) - but i imagine there has to be a tradeoff in something for only having a single nacelle?

    Just my two pennies.

Well, I carefully looked at the Galaxy, the Intrepid and the Nova to determine the actual scale of the ship. I looked at the Rigel's bridge also to give me an idea. I stand by my figures

I actually considered that, and I it made so that it would have a somewhat lower reliability rating (in this case a 'C')- on the other hand it does have an extra impulse engine, an I also took that into consideration. Adding the 'jury-rigged' or 'vulnerable system' to the warp engine would be a nice touch though. And for the record I too am not a big fan of single or trio warp configurations.

Well I don't want to get dragged into the whole debacle of franz Joseph versus Gene Rodenbery - I think that arguments been done to death, but just for a visual preference I think that the twin nacelles make more sense. There have now been too many ships with only 2 nacelles for you to not believe they did that for a reason. I.e. you need two! ;-)

I like your reasoning about the Impulse engines, which would ballance it out, if you wanted to overlook that particular irkle (for game stat purposes)

    Notes:
The rigel class was built using the same design techniques used in the galaxy and nebula class starships. This allowed starfleet to cut the design time in half and also sped construction time as well. Some call the rigel the mini-galaxy as crews who have served aboard them say they feel like they are serving aboard a galaxy the interiors are so similar. As was done with the galaxy class the rigel was given the ability to separate and rejoin without the need for a starbase. In the case of the rigel, the saucer section can enter an atmosphere and land on it’s six landing struts and be used as a mobile laboratory, while leaving the manned stardrive section in orbit. Designed for scouting / patrol duties, the rigel has a high degree of automation allowing a tiny crew in comparison of some of it’s compatriots. The only flaw of the class has to do with it’s single nacelle. It is highly prone to damage and without a second matched nacelle to take the load when it is damaged, it has caused some difficulties for it’s crews. Starfleet has at this has time been unable to correct the problem, but the single nacelle design has proven itself starting all the way back with the hermes class. The rigel class is capable of 4 year missions with refits expected every 20 years as new technologies become available.

    Designer Notes:
I used a size of 2m for the windows to get my dimensions for the ship. And as I had to do with my hermes class, I have expanded the scout size to 5 to allow for these bigger scout ships.
