This is only marginally related to spacedock, but the most conversations about fighters has been on this board, so I start here

You guys remember the episode of Voyager where Tom and B'Elana raced the Delta Flyer in that olypmic grand prix kind of race that was to commemorate the cecation of hostilities in a regoin of space?

Those snazzy white uniforms that Tom and B'Elana wore were specifically refered to as "flight suits". Would those likely, in the group's opinion, be the same flight suits that Star Fleet Attack Fighter Pilots would wear?

Given the time that has passed since they left the AQ, and the whole uniform makeover, you could probably redesign it if you wanted, but my instinct says that would be the fighter pilot design. You might want to give it more of a war-time makeover though. Standard uniform but with army-green shirt? Black jumpsuit with colored band across chest?

I was impressed with those grey and white uniforms myself- to the point that I downloaded some pics to copy. However, I really think that SFA pilots will wear some sort of environmental suit- perhaps a lighter version of the basic eva suit (which is pretty light already).

On the subject of environmental suits/space suits, I've always felt that Starfleeters incongruously seemed quite comfortable beaming into unknown areas in just their uniforms. Not this lad! If I'm not sure what's there, I wear a suit!

Yeah, I always liked how Earth Force pilots wore environmental suits in Babylon 5.

But nobody ever accused Star Fleet of doing the logical thing when it came to safety or combat.

In the Starfleet Academy Boxed Set, it has both a picture of a Flight Suit along with the stats for it in the equipment section.
In the write up it says that only Cadets and Test Pilots wear them, but I would expand the rule to include Fighter Pilots, although I would also include the equipment and the capabilites of the survival suit in the same section.

I don't have that set, I don't suppose somebody has that scanned and uploaded someplace?

    Would you mind descibing it?

They were just flashy diplomatic uniforms.

    LOL

You guys are great. Don't ever let anyone tell you otherwise.

As far as Starfleet doing the logical thing, it's kinda like Military Intellegence . . . those words usually don't go together well, even if you have a Vulcan onboard.

But to get back on the subject. I don't remember seeing those flight suits, I'm not a big VOY fan ( but I'm still going to watch the finally). However, I do think that B5 has the right idea. Being a veteran of the SAF v Romulan Warbird Scenario I would think that pilots should where some type of flight suit. Those vessels pack a punch but sure are fragile when hit. And those damn clear aluminum windows don't always seem to cut it and have a tendency of breaking . . . thus an enviro suit of some sort would be good.

Nothing to bulky though, you still wanna get out and do your thing if you have to. I would say a Jumpsuit in the design of the DS9 DW uniform with something the size of a Camel Pack (those who hike or who are in the service should know what I'm talking about) is built into the back of the uniform. It would recycle Oxygen, regulate temperature, and provide a personnal atmosphere. A Helmet would attach to the EnviroStabalizer and provide the wearer with oxygen and to remove Carbon Dioxide.

But I have to wonder. Why is it that no shuttlecraft or fighter in ST has a HUD or those nice little eye pieces like on the Apache?
