So in other words it's what we call a "gateway drug..."

I'm glad to hear that the Narrator's Screens will be moving soon. I've got a few gift certificates and discount things with my FLGS which are waiting for a string of releases so I can blow them all.

    Another official response!

A reply to my missive from Ross Campbell, and some news!

    Dear Hugh -

Thank you for your compliments on our TCG and RPG products for Star
    Trek
and The Lord of the Rings.

We do have plans for many more Star Trek RPG products and there should
    be
more regular releases beginning in 2003. The first product scheduled
    to
release in 2003 is the Star Trek RPG Narrator's Screen. Additional
    Star
Trek release dates are as follows:

    January 2003 - ST RPG Narrator's Screen
February 2003 - ST RPG Starfleet Operations Manual
March 2003 - ST RPG Starships Book

The release schedules for Decipher RPG products are not due to any
"problems at the printers" and are determined by Decipher's product
development and production schedules. We did put an emphasis on the
    LotR
products in the RPG design studio because our retail partners requested
that we design products that were timed for the release of the LotR
movies. The LotR products are doing very well in the stores and this
will help the RPG Studio to retain placement for both our Star Trek
products and LotR products during 2003.

We have many addition RPG products in the works for 2003 and additional
product release schedules will be provided in early 2003.

I hope you will continue to enjoy all of our RPG and TCG products in
    the
    future.

    Happy New Year.

    Sincerely,

    Ross

    Smile Hurrah!

I am really pleased to read that. While I am not running a ST game, I am a compulsive book buyer for any game I do play. :-)

Finally, the veil of mystery has been, er, unveiled?

Good to have SO many pieces of news about the DecTrek line. So, Hugh, how do you feel about getting so much inside information?

(Thanks to Alan and Matt for sharing too! )

So... does this mean that everything ELSE in the Star Trek line has been equally pushed back?

Oh, well. I understand the need to capitalize on the sudden interest in LotR, even though I'll never play it (I kind of outgrew elves and dwarves and halflings back when the game was called AD&D). I mean, they sell. A lot. All at once. Because of the timing of the movies.

Although I thought I heard somewhere, a long time ago, that "the work being done on LotR will in no way affect the production of the Star Trek RPG."

And there's still one more movie to come out! Expect more delays around that one?

    *sigh*

I should be glad that my online game is proceeding at nearly the same glacial pace as the Trek RPG is being produced.

So did I blink and miss the Limited Edition or is that pushed ahead a few months?

A Decipher Vorlon will now appear, glare menacingly (or as menacingly as one can glare through an encounter suit) and say "Never ask that question!"

But only because you're acting like a twit, First.

This remark, for instance, shows me that you don't have the first clue about which came first, Lord of the Rings or Dungeons & Dragons. I'm also curious about this notion that the interest in Rings is sudden, seeing as it's been there for fifty-odd years. Your tone, by the way, implying that anyone interested in Rings needs to grow up, is just flat insulting.

I've been remarkably vocal about my disappointment in Decipher's support of Star Trek, so for me to say you're acting like a whiny little bitch is saying something. And you're acting like a whiny little bitch. Give it a rest. We know you're upset, and we know you're disappointed. Constant whinging like this accomplishes nothing but pissing people off.

I'm going to go somewhere else now, before I really go off.

    Everyone back to their corners.

This forum shall not be used for personal attacks.

Hugh posted his letter to Decipher and also his response. I think Hugh did so in an appropriate manner, being direct without crossing over to rude.

I'm not sure if there's much room for further discussion. I'm closing this before someone gets hurt.

Hugh, as the thread-starter, send me a private message if you want this reopened and I will do so.
