I wanted to call this the Na'Ctka Moquka after the inspiration for the design, but FASA might not be too happy about that. Fighters might not be very Trekie, but I like them.

DESCRIPTION AND NOTES
The Valkyrie-class is a graceful and deadly fighter capable of both deep-space and atmospheric combat. The hull's planview is an acute delta shape with concave edges and it has a sharply drooping nose and wings, with part of the wingtips angling back in towards the hull. Hanging below the snout and at the end of the wingtips are 4 pulse cannons that form the main armament and just above the wing-mounted cannon, where the wingtips angle inwards are thin pods that hold the dispersed navigational array. The aft phaser array is mounted just above the impulse engines at the rear of the hull. The cockpit, which doubles as an escape pod, has a large transparent canopy over the crew who sit in a diamond pattern and just below the cockpit is the firing port for the forward mounted torpedo launcher. Rather than a standard transporter pad, each seat has an emitter built into the base thus enabling rapid 'ejections' if catastrophic combat damage is sustained.
The Valkyrie is designed for short term missions, generally no more than 8 hours, although it is capable of operating for upto a week, however the crew will probably not be at optimum performance at the end of that time. The class relies heavily on it's mothership/home base and lacks or has downgraded a number of standard components, such as science systems, navigational computers and quarters. The class even lacks an emergency life support system since all crewmembers wear an advanced armoured flight suit with built-in life support, control systems and survival gear.
DEVELOPER'S NOTES
The hull design is based on the Fluttering Petal (aka Na'Ctka Moquka) from Renegade Legion, but with a somewhat bulkier body and smaller cockpit canopy. I wish I could have fitted ablative armour to make it as tough as the original was in it's game system, but you can't have everything.
If you get the DS9 technical manual, you will see that the Defiants Pulse Phaser Canons are somewhat bigger than this craft, and as far as I can tell, you added 9 of them? Perhaps a slighty lower level pulse phaser in a larger chassis would be a little more appropriate.
After all its a fighter armed with Capital ship weapons at this point.
Also You state that each of the wings mounts 4 phasers, but you only list it once. Is that a design spec, ie 20 phaser emmiters per 'firing port', possibly to enhance cooling and reduce size? Effecively spreading a single pulse phaser along the entire wing, or was it just a mistake and there really should be 4 seperate weapons per wing?
Just a case of me not being clear. The big problem is that I had the picture of the fighter in my head & so it should be obvious to anybody reading what I meant.
There are 2 pulse phaser arrays each consisting of a pair of cannon thus there are 4 cannons in total: 1 at each wingtip (together forming the Wing Pulse Phaser Array)& 2 in a chin mount (together forming the Chin Pulse Phaser Array).
Per the pulse phaser construction rules, each pulse array normally consists of 2 cannon purely as an aesthetic touch. For a canon example, the Defiant has 4 pulse cannons but only 2 pulse arrays.
As for the size problem, personally I'm happy with them being Type X & it's an easy matter to downgrade them if an individual player/narrator considers them OTT. In game terms, I'd cover it by them being models produced 6+ years later (giving a degree of minaturisation) plus of a high-maintenance design with no onboard repair access, they have to be removed at base to be fixed/maintained. Or something.

And in the carrier systems thread, it's been mentioned that there's already a fighter class called Valkyrie (from ST: Invasion), therefore I've renamed the design as the Tempest-class. And if that's gone the Typhoon-class. Then Mosquito, Whirlwind & finally Hurricane. If push comes to shove, I suppose Mustang will do & that's only because it had a RR Merlin copy.
Okay, I might accept Tempest or Typhoon or even maybe Tornado for this thing, but not Mustang. Mustang is being reserved, by me
for a long range fighter escort (of course).
